- Flexibility

Public spaces call for Privacy and Warmth so users can accomplish tasks and feel invited to do so. We designed the Cove Carrel to meet those needs through both material and form. Instead of traditional wood, we used acoustic paneling to reduce sound in high-traffic environments. This upgrade improves focus and enhances the sense of privacy.
Cove’s curved surround replaces the typical rectilinear carrel profile, softening the visual environment and promoting ease and relaxation. The curve extends beyond the work surface, reinforcing a feeling warmth, coziness, seclusion, and privacy. Users feel tucked away– focused in their own little study/work cove.
When furnishing high-traffic public spaces, you should feel confident that the pieces in your space can hold up to that heavy use.
To ensure long-term durability, we added metal trim to each edge, unlike self-edge, PVC, or wood, metal is built to last. The interior acoustic panel, while visually softer, is still made from carefully selected PET board known for it’s strength. The exterior is a hard laminate that can withstand frequent bumps and daily wear.
The surround of the carrel is constructed in three separate parts, rather than one. This design improves both longevity and ease of maintenance for staff. A single panel part can be easily replaced under our 10-year warranty, no need to swap out entire unit.
The Cove’s work surface is power-integrated with AC, USB, and USC—without messy cords at users’ feet. After exploring a variety of design options, our product development team found a way to route the electrical through the legs of the Cove Carrel. This was a major accomplishment: whether the carrel is stand-alone or configured in a group, users don’t have to worry about tripping over cables. Plus, the aesthetic is clean– thanks to this advanced design feature.
After decades of working in public spaces and dealing with limited power infrastructure, we know that integrating power into our furniture isn’t optional—it’s essential. The Cove is no exception. Power access is a standard we design for, manage, and maintain.
As human behavior and environments evolve, public spaces need more flexibility from their furniture than ever before. The Cove Carrel meets this challenge with its smart configurability. It supports floorplans that call for grouped carrels—whether in a serpentine configuration, a traditional side-by-side layout, or even wrapping around a column. A single Cove can also stand alone. The magnetic panels on all four legs make accessing power, or removing, simple and tool-free.
Whatever the space calls for, the design adapts to both long- and short-term flexibility.
Working at the Agati office feels like having front-row seats to a magical furniture design story. Employees observe, and sometimes even participate in, the journey a product takes from rough preliminary sketches, to testing in the prototype lab, to adding the finishing touches that make Agati furniture like the Cove ready for the marketplace.
The Cove Carrel is ideal for higher education, libraries, and grades 5-12. If you’d like to speak with a furniture expert about using Cove in your space, you can request a free consultation here.
