More churches and synagogues are choosing flexible seating to meet their congregations’ changing needs. Especially since the pandemic, flexible spaces are preferred over designated use spaces. Worship rooms are flexing to accommodate different services – from large congregations to smaller, more intimate services, to guest lectures, and even dinners. Especially churches who also serve the community, sharing sanctuary seating or a banquet room with the public, adaptable seating layouts are proving to be very useful. Unlike church pews, which are drilled into the floor, heavy and bulky, chairs are easy to move and store.
The Duet Church Chair is a favorite church seating solution because it offers a simple, yet elegant design. These church chairs uniquely offer the ability to provide both hymnal racks and stacking capabilities in the same chair. Using a stackable church chair with an upholstered seat and a book rack, checks all the boxes in sanctuary seating. Duet worship chairs also make great choir chairs. This paired-down design gracefully supports practically any design style.

A wooden chair provides a feeling of warmth in sanctuary furniture. As a natural material, wood provides a sense of comfort and tradition that just can’t be replicated in metal chairs. Real wood will never go out of style, and looks great for years to come. Naturally sustainable, wooden chairs also assist our environment. Cushioned and upholstered seats support congregations in any color you choose. We built the Duet Church Chair for easy maintenance and cleaning, so they’ll hold their luster for the next generation. And of course, as with all of our products, they’re Made in the USA.
“I really enjoyed the simplicity of style for the Beth Emet Synagogue. We used our standard Baja Church Chair, in both arm chair and armless versions. We added ganging capability to it, so the church seating lines are straight like church pews, but the church chairs can be separated and moved. The sloping and generous seat pan provided a comfortable seat, while the simple, contemporary style quietly becomes part of the space. The book rack is discreetly hidden under the upholstered seat for a minimal design. It provides comfort for the worshiper, so the focus can be on the experience.
Another favorite was the Madonna della Strada Chapel for Loyola University of Chicago. We customized the back with some wood carving to blend with the chapel architecture and stained glass. We added kneelers and several other pieces of custom chapel furniture, such as the clergy chairs, to match. The overall effect is seamless design integrated with the architecture to create a feeling of long standing tradition, and multi-faceted experience for churchgoers. The design of this wooden church chair with kneelers actually led to the design of the Della Church Chair, which became a popular church chair of ours, and then the Della Wood Stacking Chair.
For those interested in well-designed sanctuary furniture, the Duet Church Chair is my first choice. The form and function of this wooden chair are so thoughtfully linked. This design has been a long time in coming. We designed it specifically for places of worship who want a high quality wood chair for a flexible space. The Duet Church Chair uniquely offers the ability to provide BOTH hymnal racks and stacking in the same chair. This paired-down design gracefully supports practically any design style. The elegant design also provides for easy maintenance and repair.”
First, measure your space. Figure out how many chairs your room will hold. For flexible spaces, plan for nearby storage that can hold overflow when the room is being used for other events. Our Duet Church Chair is made to safely stack four chairs high. Because all of our products are made to order, when you order over 100 church chairs, there is no surcharge.
Make sure your chapel has a flat floor surface (not sloped). Stackable church chairs work best on flat floors. The good news is that (unlike pews) you don’t have to drill holes in your floor.
