Where Academic Support Happens

The heart of any student success center is the work that happens there: tutoring, STEM labs, MESA programs, writing centers, academic advising. These spaces need furniture that transitions easily between one-on-one sessions and small group collaboration, with power integration built in. Agati Furniture gives tutoring centers and student resource spaces the structure they need without locking them into a single configuration.

When LA Valley College’s MESA Program Director looked at their existing computer lab, she saw rows of desks that prioritized individual work in a space that needed to foster collaboration. Agati worked with her team to transform it into a student-centered hub. They needed furniture that was modern, flexible and durable enough to withstand the heavy use of a higher education environment.

Inclusive Design for Neurodivergent Students

Not every student thrives in open, busy environments. For many, including neurodivergent students, sensory overload from noise, visual clutter, and lack of personal space can make university common areas challenging. Agati’s PODs were originally designed to provide feelings of security in public spaces, and they do exactly that for students who need a quiet, enclosed workspace to focus, test, or simply decompress. The curved upholstered panels reduce outside sensory input while keeping students connected to the room around them. ADA-accessible POD Carrels extend the same experience to wheelchair users.

This isn’t accommodation as an afterthought. It’s designing the environment to work for every student from the start, an approach shared by Temple Grandin’s philosophy: “Make the environment work for you, not against you.”

Built for How Students Actually Study

A student success center serves dozens of different study styles in a single room. At the University of South Alabama, the tutoring center needed to accommodate large groups of 5 to 20 students, small groups of 2 to 4, one on one sessions, and virtual tutoring, all in one space. Agati’s Adapt Mobile Work Stations allow the room to shift from lecture style to small group configuration in minutes. FrameWork Whiteboard on Wheels helps to segment the open space into private zones for individual or virtual tutoring, then roll out of the way when the full room is needed again. This is furniture that lets the space transform as the day demands.
